What is it called when the stock market is trending down?
Bear market: When a stock or bond index, or a commodity's price falls and keeps falling, it is considered to be in a bear market. Often a decline of 20 percent or more in a stock index is said to meet the threshold of a bear market.

Even though the value of the stock showed significant variability over that time, the general change was positive. This means that it was an increasing trend, or the trend was up. Trends can also be described as decreasing, going down, or sideways. A decreasing trend means that the value of the variable is decreasing.

Is 2024 a bull or bear market?
After a spectacular 2023, stocks are off to the races again in 2024. YTD, the Dow is up 2.72%, the S&P is up 7.28%, and the Nasdaq is up 6.41%. (And that's on top of last year's 13.7%, 24.2%, and 43.4% respectively.)
A drop in price to zero means the investor loses his or her entire investment: a return of -100%. To summarize, yes, a stock can lose its entire value. However, depending on the investor's position, the drop to worthlessness can be either good (short positions) or bad (long positions).
Why is it called bullish or bearish? The terms bullish and bearish are believed to have derived from how bulls and bears fight their enemies: a bull thrusts its horns in the air, while a bear will pull its opponent down.
"There's a solid chance that we see renewed weakness in the economic and earnings numbers as we move through 2024. The money is lost only when the positions are sold during or after the crash. As we know, the stock market is volatile and if it falls today, there is no doubt that will also rise sooner than later. In such a situation, patience is important. What causes the Stock market to crash?
All banks are insolvent. They take depositors' money and loan it out, that is how they make a profit and stay in business, but that means that they do not ever have enough money available to give every depositor their money if they wish to withdraw it.

How do you sell at Down trend?
Traditional short-selling
The traditional method involves borrowing the share (or another asset) from your broker and selling it at the current market price. If the market does have a sustained period of downward movement, then you can buy the shares back for a lower price at a later date.
Panic selling, when the stock market is going down, can hurt your portfolio instead of helping it. There are many reasons why it's better for investors to not sell into a bear market and stay in for the long term.
If you feel the stock has fallen because the market has overreacted to something, then buying more shares may be a good thing. Likewise, if you feel there has been no fundamental change to the company, then a lower share price may be a great opportunity to scoop up some more stock at a bargain.
The opening period (9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Eastern Time) is often one of the best hours of the day for day trading, offering the biggest moves in the shortest amount of time. A lot of professional day traders stop trading around 11:30 a.m. because that is when volatility and volume tend to taper off.
A trend is the overall direction of a market or an asset's price. In technical analysis, trends are identified by trendlines or price action that highlight when the price is making higher swing highs and higher swing lows for an uptrend, or lower swing lows and lower swing highs for a downtrend.
